In the foreground you can see some of the ice blocks that fell too far away from the base of the cliff to become part of the reconstituted glacier. The lower part of Avalance Canyon is relatively vegetation-free; the Gilkey Glacier and the Echo Glacier would have met and covered this area as recently as 100 or 150 years ago.
