The rest of the sculpture. From SFGate:
One of the campus' shining jewels is the hollow bronze ball a creation of the Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro who has variations of the globe throughout the world including at the United Nations in New York. Titled "Rotante Dal Foro Centrale" the orb which is 6 1/2 feet in diameter was originally at the University Art Museum but when the building was renovated it had to be moved. After it was cleaned up and restored the orb was moved this spring to a spot near the western entrance to the campus kitty-corner from the building where the museum hopes to relocate. "I wanted something to greet people as they came onto campus from downtown Berkeley" said Jim Horner the campus landscape architect.
