Cliffs of rock and ice come together in this image. Note the blocky nature of the basalt in the rock cliffs - these preexisting weaknesses in the rock make it easier to erode. But of course, since this area is a cliff it must be more resistant that the rock around it. The wavy amber layers of ice in the glacier come from impurities in the ice - the darker layers have higher concentrations of dust and chemical impurities. The lower right corner of the image shows the outlet of the lake we camped on.
